Learn How the Series 65 Will Change Your Practice

Learn More About Your Instructor, Reed Nakazono

For well over 30 years, Reed Nakazono has personally trained more than 10,000 candidates to pass their securities exams. His company, Nakazono Securities Training Inc., has been providing exam preparation classes in the Denver area and nationwide since 1988. He trains and prepares his clients to obtain a wide range of licenses, including Series 7, Series 6, Series 24, Series 9/10, Series 63, Series 65, Series 66 and others.

Nakazono provides a conceptual framework that helps people determine what’s relevant and what’s not relevant, so they’re studying what is most likely to be on the exam and they don’t waste time studying what is most likely to be on the exam and they don’t waste time studying other information. The idea is to study smart, not just study hard. Nakazono is a busy man, but found time in his full schedule to answer a few of our questions.

In your experience, what do you see as the benefits of the training you provide for taking this exam?

My hope is to help those who have previously studied the materials to clarify the information and focus on the topics most likely to be tested. I also try to help them structure their study process to make the most efficient use of their time in preparing for the exam.

How do you separate yourself from other training services, i.e., training methods, the chronology of studies, agenda, etc., and do you have a success/fail rate?

After close to 40 years of training I’d like to think I know as much or more than most providing these same services. More importantly, I think I provide the right balance of substance and style. In other words, I try to make what is boring entertaining.

Why is this a good time to get your Series 65?

The reason it is a good time to get your 65 is precisely because the industry is moving to the AUM model. I think with the introduction of “Reg BI,” it will be increasingly difficult to continue with a transaction model only.

In what ways have you seen Series 65 licenses improve the practice of advisors?

I see two immediate benefits: One is credibility. Being an advisor representative aligns your interest with your clients. Two, it annuitizes your business model.
